Scarce post Civil War era pocket New Testament Bible found withy rare CDV of a Civil War soldier, possibly the owner. Bible bound in wallet form, complete with flap and slip catch, in decent shape with some minor external and internal wear. Original red leather covers and spine, as shown, hinges intact; a slight tear to the top of the front fly with a tiny portion missing. Inscribed on fromt EP \'Howard Eakins December 24/ 74\' also H EAKINS stamp on last EP. Pages all present; lightly browned throughout, intact. Similar to that which was carried by Civil War soldiers a decade before, this curious piece has some string ties, as it was found with the pictured CDV within it. Possibly Eakins, or a relative. Rear of photo with name of photographer W. Giles, West Aurora Illinois. Gilt page edges. 3.75\" x 2.5\". RARE!
