Scarce and exquisite Cupid with Basket figurine from the L Series (L118) modeled by Heinrich Schwabe for the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, circa 1878, hand-painted hard-paste porcelain, the figure depicting a slightly frowning, fig-leaf-wearing Cupid with quiver slung over one shoulder, standing on a grassy mound before a stump, his gilt bow on the ground beside him, on a faux-marble circular plinth with bright gilt detailing, approx. 7-1/2\" tall overall, the base with underglaze cobalt blue crossed swords, incised \"L118\", impressed \"50,\" and gilt-painted \"69.\" Loss to one wing as shown in photo; and missing the separately molded basket that originally hung from the figure\'s left arm. Despite these faults, which are well within the means of replacement/restoration by a competent professional, the most delicate and finely molded details--the fingers and toes, the thin string of the bow--remain fully intact and undamaged, and the meticulously finished figure still maintains great presence and charm.
