WATERFORD, CONNECTICUT/MARSEILLES, FRANCE regarding an account with DE ROTHSCHILD BROS of PARIS!135 YEARS OLD!A wonderful piece of banking history in the form of an over century old hand written letter between two very powerful institutions; August Belmont & Co. and De Rothschild Bros.!This interesting hand written document is from the offices of August Belmont & Co to an A.W. Darrow of Marseilles France regarding an account with De Rothschild Bros of Paris. Signed at the base by two executives from Augustus Belmont & Co. From what I can make out the signatures read: \'N. Luttyen\' and \'W. Reuter\'. The letter appears to be in the handwriting of Luttyen. The letter reads:New York, January 31st, 1880,
A.M. Darrow Esq. Waterford Conn.; \"Dear Sir, We received your Postal card of the 30th instructing Messieurs De Rothschild Bros of Paris having informed us that the remittance of his 740-1A. Mr.A. Darrow of Marseilles has not been made, we shall pay you the equivalent on application and remain.\" Yours respectfully \'Per Pro August Belmont & Co.\'
Signed N. Luttyen and W. Reuter Further this amazing document is written on \'Imperial Linen, F.H.D. & Co.\' watermarked paper complete with an image of a castle! Also, one can note the handsome \'Per Pro August Belmont & Co.\' ink stamp!In Very Good overall condition with only 3 gentle fold lines through the document as well as some light wrinkling and edge wear; very faint spotting; no foxing; clean & bright! Measures 8 1/8\" x 10 3/8\" and comes housed in a protective mylar sleeve.
August Belmont, Sr. (December 8, 1813 – November 24, 1890) \"was a German-American politician, financier, foreign diplomat, and party chairman of the Democratic National Committee during the 1850s, and later a horse-breeder and racehorse owner, who established the Belmont Park racecourse on Long Island, New York. He is the namesake of the Belmont Stakes, third jewel of the Triple Crown series of American thoroughbred horse racing.\"August Belmont and Company
