BUT PROBABLY INVITATION WAS JUST AS MUCH SOUGHT-AFTER!++++++Original 1880s-1890s Mobile Alabama reception invitation from a Ladies Committee whose husbands were members of the prominent (but now extinct) Manassas Club in Mobile, Alabama. The Manassas Club was incorporated in 1891 but I think its history went back a bit further than that and that it was somewhat contemporaneous with the Athelstan Club (still extant and the oldest private club in Alabama). Membership in either club was very prestigious.
Members of the Ladies Reception Committee included: Mrs. William Ketcham, Mrs. F. S. Parker, Mrs. R. W. Hallett, Mrs. D. E. Huger, Mrs. W. J. Brainard and Mrs. C. A. Holt.
Finished size of the invitation was 4 1/4 inches by 7 inches. The invitation wwas folded over once to fit into the original envelope.
Accompanied by the original, unposted envelope which was apparently hand delivered to an old Mobile family.
Very good; accompanied by the original hand-distributed envelope, addressed to the daughter of a prominent Mobile businessman and having the Manassas Club emblem on the flap of the fine print ... [sigh] ... but please read :-)
