Ifyou\'re heading out of town on vacation and would like me to hold your purchase for a week or two until you return, I\'ll be happy to do that. Here\'s a beautiful 125-year-old London Stereoscopic Co. half plate camera made of polished mahogany and cherry, with exquisite brass fittings. The camera has its original London Stereoscopic lens (with a Thornton Pickard curtain shutter) and features double-extension bellows for long focus work. It comes with an equally beautiful mahogany plateholder.Condition of the camera is very good to excellent throughout. The wood is stunning, and the wood\'s finish is original. Original brass fittings and hardware are clean, with a beautiful patina. Ground glass is in excellent condition, with no damage, and the lens is clear. With sufficient lighting the lens will throw a clear, crisp image against the glass back. The aperture control is working and turns easily.
The bellows appear to be light tight, but I have not checked them for leaks, so I don\'t know if the camera is presently suitable for photography. The Thornton Pickard style shutter appears to be sound and complete, with a good spring and a working curtain, but the shutter assembly will need to be serviced and lubricated if you wish to put the camera back into service. The camera folds up nicely and looks beautiful from any angle.
This is a fine Victorian camera that looks great on a shelf or mounted to a tripod. And the wood and brass are in excellent condition given the camera\'s age. The plateholder mounts snugly to the back of the camera, and it retains both of its original wood slides.
