1888 CHRISTMASVILLE TENNESSEE #213 TIED BY POSSIBLE FANCY CHRISTMAS GIFT CANCEL :
$20.00

This 1888 cover was sent from Christmasville in Carroll County Tennessee to a William Coleman at Rising Sun in Wood County Ohio. The Christmasville post officeoperated from 1827 to 1902. This cover is unusual in a couple of ways. The CDS uses a 5 instead of May which is a little akin to a Quaker marking and also perhaps more important the killer on the stamp (Scott #213) kind of appears to be a present. The cancel is square but at the lower right corner appears to being possibly a bow. Perhaps it is my active imagination but I dobelieve the cancel is a Christmas gifteven thoughit is a May usage. There is a Rising Sun receiving mark on the back.
