A BREATHTAKING COIN IN EVERY SENSE

NGCGRADED IT LONG, LONG AGO

1888 MORGAN DOLLARNGC MS63

The coin looks even better than the grade AND PROBABLY IS.The reason is the simple fact this isin the old \"first year\" NGC thick slab. Even the low certification number verifies the fact NGC graded this one in 1986. They were just starting up on the East Coast. PCGS started grading coins the same year on the West Coast. They were the first two services and they both used the same strategy: undergrade as many coins as possible to establish their reputations. Grading was ready for a change. Both won. Other services disappeared. The business of grading coins took off and hasn\'t stopped growing.

Today, if you want to invest in rare coinage, you better have one of those two names backing the coin\'s condition. When you read about high-end sales and famous rare coin sales that set records, it\'s ALWAYS a coin in one of those two holders.

Coins were, prior to 1986, placed in cardboard flips and dealers used a plus system to grade them. A flip with a handwritten MS+++ was what we call today a MS63. A MS+++++ was a 65. And so forth. It was a system that had on obvious flaw: the potential for abuse was there and all you had to do was add a plus or two.

NGC and PCGS changed it forever. Coins were placed in hard slabs and a numeric system was introduced. It caught on and today those two are the only grading services that matter. Yes there are other services but their grading is not nearly as accepted by collectors.

ENOUGH BACKGROUND - BACK TO THIS EXACT COIN: it\'s an upgrade candidate. Looks higher than 63. Some rim toning adds value. The slab itself is in remarkable shape - not the absence of old price sticker residue. Seldom do you see one this pristineand most form that first year have scratches or even torn hologram edges.

The strike is superior for the date. Natural color on both sides - not too much and not too little.Mirror-like surfaces. Eye appeal that makes it hard to set the coin aside.

It\'s just my opinion butNGC couldeasily reassign this one a star ★ or plus +grade or even move it up a notch or two in number. They were ultraconservative in 1986 & 1987 and that\'s why collectors prefer graded coins in NGC holders from their early years.You\'ll find it difficult to finda better MS63. Not many come along this nice in a \"\" sale.

Very few from 1888 (long considered a weak strike date) with this type of superior look exist. Most of them get sold at outrageous BUY IT NOW price formats on too. They are extremely difficult to find in any formatand most dealers on here are content to list one this nice at a BUY IT NOW price and just let it sell when it sells (and it will sell).

This sale began at 99 cents and has price. Winner gets to add a sensational certifiedminimum 63 coin to their stash !It makes the datestand out in any graded collection. Flawless rims and fewer bagmarks (common for the date) than the grade implies.

Plus it ships FAST AND FREE. Ready to mail out Saturday morning. Turn thiscommon Morgan date into astandout coinin your collection with thissuperb \"under graded\" SIXTYTHREE1888 silver dollar.
