This sale is for a very rare 1888 political banner Flag for the Presidential Republican campaign of Benjamin Harrison ( he did win this year and became our 23rd President)and his running mate for Vice President, Levi P. Morton. In two corners, there is a portrait of Benjamin Harrison...in the other two corners, there is a portrait of Levi Morton. Along the edges of the circular design in the center, it reads \" For President, Benjamin Harrison......For Vice President, Levi P. Morton \"....(Benjamin Harrison was the grandson of our 9th President, William Henry Harrison, and the great-grandson of Benjamin Harrison, the 5th who signed the Declaration of independence...Benjamin Harrison had served in the Civil War and was a Union Colonel serving with the 70th Indiana. He also was on the front lines during the Civil War w/ General William Sherman...He was later promoted to command the 1st Brigade, 1st Division of the XX Corps). On this banner,at the center of the stars and stripes, it reads \" Protection.\".......The red is still bright, the other parts of the banner are light brown and beige. The banner appears to be made of a muslin type material and is intact, in good condition, with exception of a few soil spots/age spotsand a tiny tear on one edge.
