favorite booksInk signature and sentiment, \"Yours truly, Dond. G. Mitchell, Edgewood, Wednesday, 29 April 1892,\" on an off-white 3-1/2\" x 2-1/4\" slip clipped from the conclusion of a letter and mounted to a larger card. Clearly penned and in fine condition.

Donald Grant Mitchell (1822 - 1908), who wrote under the pen name Ik Marvel, is best known for a collection of essays, Reveries of a Bachelor, published in 1850. The book was a favorite of poet Emily Dickinson; according to biographer Alfred Habegger, it was \"the most immediately inspiring book Dickinson read in her early twenties.\" Emily\'s brother, Austin, was likewise an admirer of Reveries and included it on his list of books that he \"kept by his side\" in the fall of 1851.
