This elegant cobalt blue and gold cup and saucer set is by Copeland, part of Spode and one of England\'s pre-eminent china makers of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The firm was world renowned for its high quality and design expertise.

As is true of most older Spode and Copeland pieces, the set has an impressed date mark: the number 11 over 95, indicating it was produced in November 1895, making it 121 years old. The green underglaze Copelands China mark, which came into use in 1891, supports that.

Both pieces also have the red overglaze retail mark of GilmanCollamore, the New York importer.GilmanCollamore was a high-end store that was located at 5th Avenue and 30th Street, the address onthese sets, from 1890 to 1920.

This rare pattern – 9105 – is in keeping withGilmanCollamore’s commitment to selling only the best quality. Both pieces aremade of very fine thin and translucent porcelain in a detailed and beautifully executeddesign of a gold andcobaltGreek key and clusters of delicate pink and yellow roses.The handwritten pattern number appears on both pieces.

The cup is 3 1/4 inches in diameter and 1 7/8 inches tall. The saucer is 4 3/4 inches in diameter.

The saucer is in excellent condition for its age with no chips, marks, cracks, scratches, crazing or repairs. The cup has an old crack, shown in the photos with the penny. There is an embedded black mark on the interior that was likely created during the manufacturing process; that\'s also shown in the photos with the penny.

Despite this, it remains a very beautiful set andwould be a superb addition to any collection of fine quality cups and saucers.
