This original pinback or easel back button was issued for the William McKinley presidental campaign in either 1896 or 1900. This is a real actual photo button (no screen printing). Most political buttons were screen printed & only a small percentage are real photo buttons. The back at the center of the metal is marked \"Photo Jewellry Mfg. Co. Pat\'d\". Additionally, there are two more lines of incised info at the center back which we are not able to read. The button is quite large & impressive as it has a diameter of 3 1/2 inches. When the front is viewed straight on the button appears to be in fresh, crisp, shiny mint condition. The level of surface gloss of the celluloid & the richness of the extra deep sepia tone both match the optimum surface quality that could possibly be hoped for. It is rare to see a sepia toned photographic button with this depth of visual quality! When viewed at an angle in bright light there is very slight wear. There is a slightly pushed in area on his shoulder (viewer\'s right) 5/8 inch by 1/2 inch. In this area it looks like someone rolled the reeded edge of a coin over the surface three times. The back would have originally had a pin or a folding wire easel (most likely an easel) to stand the button up. But, this original wire piece is missing. Under the opening which would have accepted that pin or easel there is a small spot of solder. The solder, which is not original, was added long ago to apparently support a different pin (not present). An exceptionally pleasing example with optimum rich colors & excellent centering. Rarely found in this size & almost never found with this richness of visual quality.Please examine the clear photos that we have provided & purchase based on your own opinion as to the condition.
