18C/19C Antique Lions of Judah Brass Poland Polish Sabbath Candelabrum Judaica :

This stunning piece would be welcome in any museum. It measures 23 inches high, 16.5 inches wide, and weighs an extremely heavy 16 pounds, 5.4 ounces. The range of age of this piece is late 18th to early 19th century, however I am 99% sure that this is 18th century based on the quality of casting, turning, and other brass details. It is from Poland, and features a royal Double Headed Eagle with Crown at top (I believe for the Austrian Empire who controlled Poland at the time), along with two Lions of Judah, made and used by Jews of Poland to light the Sabbath candles. The stem / shaft piece does not screw in properly to the base, I think because the threading of the opening to the top of the base was damaged many years ago and a little square nut was made to fill in that space, and that nut is now gone, so that is why the whole piece tilts in the first two photos. It would be easy to get this repaired by one of my New York sources of antique restorers, but I did not want to alter the piece, I leave that up to the buyer. But rest assured, this is an easy fix.

Shown in the last photo is from a museum book printed in Russia, it shows a very similar piece to mine.

However the immense weight and insurance needed makes the shipping cost $100 to anywhere in the USA.
