Fine 18th Century Support Hook Spike

Certain to look great on the interior of a Colonial Era home or Decorum, this piece is all hand wrought, blacksmith made with nice early construction!

Pieces such as this were hammered into the mortar walls and wooden beams of early homes to serve as a support hook for various lighting devices, be it tin lanterns, whale-oil or grease burning betty (fat) lamps.

One nice feature of this specific piece is the fact the blacksmith worked in a lovely pattern that features three off-flanking curls to the left and right. All curls are intact, none missing.

Measures 8\" in overall length. Almost identical examples can be seen illustrated in George Nuemanns \"Early American Antique Country Furnishings\" (see included reference)

You can see the great period construction. Some slight pitting and blackening from its age, some scattered remains of white mortar are left on its original surface. The bottom support hook has some very slight gaps in the linear nature of it. Though overall a very good- example that would look great complimenting any period piece of lighting, or just on its own as a piece of early metalware.
