Description

AN EXTREMELY FINE LATE 18TH OR EARLY 19TH CENTURY MINIATURE FOUR (4) DRAWER APOTHECARY OR SPICE CHEST IN THE BEST ORIGINAL OXIDIZED SPANISH BROWN PAINTED SURFACE. New England, Circa 1780-1820, STILL RETAINING ITS ORIGINAL HAND CARVED WOODED PULLS. THE WOODS ARE PINE AND POPLAR.

THIS GREAT LITTLE CHEST HAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST OLD GRUNGY ORIGINAL SPANISH BROWN PAINTED SURFACE.
VERY RARE EARLY CONSTRUCTION, THE CASE IS A STILE AND PANEL CONSTRUCTION WITH INSET SIDES AND BACK. ALL THE ORIGINAL HAND CUT PEGS ARE STILL INTACT.
THE DRAWERS ARE FULLY DOVETAILED WITH EXPOSED FRONT DOVETAILS.

THESE RARE LITTLE PIECES WERE MADE TO LOOK LIKE A FULL SIZE CHEST OF DRAWERS.
The size is wonderful, it is 8 1/2\" across the front, it is 7 3/4\" deep and it stands 13 1/2\" high.

Typical wear associated with the age of the item. The bottom board of the bottom drawer is a 19th century replacement. There is an old loss to the left front dovetails of the bottom drawer as well, (see photos). The piece is tight and is only a minor loss.
