The emphasis in his Icon type , is on Saint Nicholas as the champion of the Orthodox faith, and protector of the Church and people. Hence the model of a Russian monastery, which the Saint holds in his left hand, and the drawn sword brandished in his right hand. The prototype of this image, was a life-sized effigy first enshrined in the Church of Mozhaisk.
