A EUROPEAN MYTHOLOGICAL SUBJECT WASTE BOWL

CIRCA 1745

Finely painted en grisaille heightened in gilding with the Goddess Diana painted in the interior center of the bowl, and the outside rim with a border of boar- and stag-hunting scenes, strapwork, and foliate-scrolls perched upon by a pair of owls and repeated around. The waste bowl is generally in outstanding condition save for a number of small chips and flakes around the rim. La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes a Décor Occidental, (F. & N. Hervouët, Y. Bruneau, Flammarion - Pere Castor, Paris 1986), p. 298, no. 13.98. The other bowls photographed in the last two pictures are NOT part of this lot, but are offered separately on , and are shown just to give the viewer of a better sense of the relative sizes of each.
