Brilliant 18th century french sterling silver wine taster of simple form with snake handle. Quality is superb with a thick and heavy silver bowl, engraved with two names along the side.The worn hallmarks (one on the bottom of the cup, one on the handle) have been unidentifiable to us thus far; a partial fleur de lys symbol can be seen in one of the hallmarks. We do know for sure that this is pre-1789.Condition is good despite surface scratching and a few shallow dents along the bottom edge. The thick, sturdy nature of the cup has helped it to retain an overall rounded form, nonetheless. Weighs 70 grams and measures 8 cms (3.15 inches) in diameter without the handle.
