18th Century New York State Trestle Tavern Table And 9 Ladderback Chairs AAFA:

Up for sale is a large 18th century trestle tavern table in original red paint and nine 18th-early 19th century ladder back chairs(1 arm) in original red paint. This table and the chairs were purchased privately from the estate of a couple in Sheffield, MA who had collected Americana for over 50 years. The table and chairs sat in from of the open fireplace in the home where the family enjoyed dinners. It was purchased from R. G. Ellis Antiques in Sheffield, MA in 1974.
The table is 8 feet long and 42 1/2 inches wide. The base has ring and block turnings and shoe feet. The is trestle is mortised through the post and pinned as are the shoe feet. The feet, which are original, have had some restoration. The scrubbed top is 3 boards and is stamped on one end by the maker J. J. Anthony. The table is believed to have been made in New York State. I was unable to find any information on the maker. The early chairs all have good seats, although a few of the seats have had some restoration.
