REVOLUTIONARY WAR CANTEEN WITH ORIGINAL PAINT OF THE WAR OF 1812 PERIOD. This canteen is in excellent condition retaining nearly all of its paint from the post Revelutionary period. There is some scratch carving underneath the paint from the period when it was unpainted. The color originally was a nice ochre with red accent and regimental or company number. The canteen is constructed in the 18th century manner with rose head nails. None of the leather strap holders are present. The canteen has a pleasing color. The ochre has oxidized to a brownish-green and the red has lost its brillian shine. It measure 6 1/2 inches diameter x 2 1/2 inches.
