Commonly known as "broth" bowls this style of brass bowl would have been placed at the center of an early table spread to have broth or soups held in it. This style was commonly imported to England and intern America from the late 18th century from dutch brassworkers.
As you can see on the underside there is great signs of original sand cast construction. The piece being finished and spun with linear decorations on the sides. There are several spots were the piece was repaired from use being lead fills. See item pictures.
Heavy in brass construction the piece is 3lbs 6 oz.
Top rim has a measurement of 9 1/2" in diameter, bottom 5 1/2" in diameter.
Great patina on this piece! Certain to be a welcome to any Colonial era home or collection!
