18thC SILVER PAIR CASE SQ PLLR VERGE POCKET WATCH \'DANIEL WINT, LONDON\' c1750 :
$441.82

An mid 18th century small silver pair cased pocket watch with a superb decorative square pillar verge movement signed \'Danl Wint, London, No.145\', in good overall condition and good working order, running the length of the chain, dates to c1740-50.

The outer silver case is in good overall condition, no dints. The rear cover has a worn engraved monogram \'JL\'. The case hinge is in good condition, the catch spring is missing the end piece so doesn\'t lock the front cover, the catch button has some wear, see photos. There are no signs of a hallmark in the outer case but I am sure it is solid silver (probably made for the inner case as a later replacement). The case measures 49mm in diameter.

The inner silver case is in good condition, no dints. The case is hallmarked, but is worn, I can make out the lion passant mark and the early lions head mark but the date letter and makers initials are too worn to make out. The stem looks original to the case, no signs of repair. The case measures 41mm in diameter.

The convex enamel dial is in excellent condition, no chips or hairlines. The high dome bevelled glass crystal is in good condition. The hands are as seen.

Thesuperb decorative square pillar fusee movement has a verge escapement and is in good clean condition and good working order (runs for the length of the chain, runs a little fast - gains approx. 3 minutes per hour). The movement is signed \'Danl Wint\' and is numbered \'145\'. The balance cock has a large ruby end-stone and the balance cock and regulator plate have matching scroll fret work decoration, the steel catch spring has a decorative scroll finish to one end. The movement is key wind and set which work fine, modern key included.

Note : Daniel Wint is listed as working at Holborn, London 1720 to 1753.

Superb movement.
