Here is an untouched, estate fresh, hand-painted tin Halloween Parade Lantern. This two-piece lantern is pumpkin shaped with the top to bottom pumpkin-like pressed grooves. The truly amazing fact is this lantern has ITS ORIGINAL paper insert! This classic looking tin head is mounted on a heavy wire loop hanger that’s twist-wound onto its original parade stick. This allows the head to move freely on the stick. The pumpkin face has round cut out eyes, a thin triangle nose and a double row of small square teeth. The face’s hand-painting is probably unique to this piece. The color is burnt orange with black paint highlights. In almost all cases, the paper burns up after the first lighting. The under and top side have vent and candle fitter cutouts. It measures about 28” long by 6 1/2” in diameter. It shows little, if any use. We inserted an L-shaped led scope light into the bottom opening and looked closely at the backside of the paper insert. It appears to us to be 100% original. The paper is aged and toned, like a 1920\'s pulp magazine. The eye litho is faded. Also, the left front eye paper has traces of the black paint used for the eyebrows on the tin. There is a thin wire piece around the lantern that allows it to hang vertically, possibly by a store vendor. This two-piece lantern fits together like a lid on a tin coffee can.
