Features a Native American Indian Princess wearing a feathered headband and beaded outfit. Great execution – this has color - DEsign No 850 on the back. Measures 6” in diameter. Has the Flemish Art Co. logo on the back and a metal loop for hanging on the top center. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Flemish Carving aspect is carving in connection with pyrography . . . the name is taken from some specimens executed by a Flemish artist many years ago in which carving, pyrography an color were combined . . . From 1903: . . . “Pyrography as a decoration has come to stay. Like all other things that are new, novel and apparently easy, it will have to pass through a certain “fad stage” before reaching a recognized position of worth .“At the turn of the century Pyrography and Flemish Carving were very popular and there were technique books published teaching how to do this craft. New tools had been invented to make it easier . . . pyrography used to be done by heating a poker red hot in the fire, today, we have the perfectly adjusted platinum point as easily managed as a pen . . .”I purchased this at an estate sale and have had this for about 15 years. CONDITION: Very good condition – one small little edge chip on the lower right edge. This would probably really look even richer if it was oiled, but I do not like to alter finishes.
