1900 Pine Cone Russian Faberge Egg 3.5\'\' (H) X 2\'\' (D) 14.4 oz Pewter,Crystals, Enamel BoxedEgg History: The Pine Cone egg is a jewelled enameledEaster egg made under the supervision of the Russian jeweler Peter Carl byworkmaster Mikhail Perkhin in 1900.The egg was made for Alexander Kelch, whopresented it to his wife. One end of the pine cone, a symbol of resurrection,is set with four diamonds, forming a quatrefoil enclosing the date \"1900\". Theopposite end is set with a diamond star, enclosing a portrait diamond over alater miniature of a young woman.The egg shell opens to reveal a surprise, anoxidized silver Indian elephant supporting an enameled turbaned mahout seatedupon saddle cloth. When wound with the original gold key, the tiny elephant,lumbers forward, shifting its weight from one side to the other, all the whileturning its head and flicking its tail. Ownership: Sold in 1989 by Christie\'sGeneva to Joan Kroc (widow of Ray Kroc, former chairman of McDonaldsCorporation) of San Diego, California for $3.1 million. In 1997 the egg wasoffered by Christie\'s in New York from the collection of Joan Kroc, but didnot sell with the highest offer of $2.8 million. The pre sale estimate was $3.5to 4.5 million.
