Up for sale is an Antique (100+ year old) postcard. This postcard is embossed and it has an Undivided Back. This is an Artist Signed postcard ~ Raphael Kirchner’s name is located in the front bottom left corner area. After studying the Vienna Academy of fine arts in 1896, Kirchner began his career as a portrait painter but was illustrating postcards as early at 1898. After moving to Paris in 1900 his commercial work became more dominant and he was designing magazine covers and within a year. Most of his postcards were of women with his wife Nina, the Kirchner Girl, being the model for many of them. Kirchner suffered an appendicitis attack while painting a portrait and died of complications just hours after his operation in 1917 (at 41 years old).

“Demi Vierge” (which roughly translates from French to English as “Half Virgin”) is printed in the front bottom left corner area above Raphael Kirchner’s name in the light green border area. This postcard shows a pretty lady holding a small bouquet of flowers with a gold color background.

CONDITION

This postcard is not Used. The postcard has small corner bumps with rounded corners. There is some light edge wear. There are no creases. There is a tiny hole caused when a former owner of this postcard hung it on a wall with a small nail, tack or pin. The postcard has browned due to aging and from being in a scrapbook for years ~ the postcard is not brittle. This postcard will be shipped with cardboard around it to protect it during shipping.
