This work is dedicated to collection Cuzco School of painting. Named to own artistic style of the period of the American colonies, which had its most characteristic production in the Peruvian city of Cuzco, between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
The works of the Cuzco School are recognized to follow a common pattern of representation, to integrate visually Western Catholic iconographic motifs of indigenous imagery, and the use of ocher for painting and polychrome wood for sculptures.
Origins and characteristics. Although a former regional pictorial tradition that could be traced back to the Inca queros prehispanic murals or remembered the Inca Garcilaso, easel painting was only implemented in Cusco after the conquest. Colonial artists used a mixture of technical procedures which incorporated the old egg tempera, opaque appearance, and the brilliant Renaissance oil transparency feature. While at first it was painted with some frequency on wood panels, the support used was the canvas. As for the mural, it booms met both at the beginning and end of the viceroyalty.
