You are offerding on a 1901 Artist Alexander GardnerPhotographic Portrait of Abraham Lincoln, Height 25\" Width 20\". This portrait was obtained from the State of Illinois. I purchased a large group of paintings from the State of Illinois and in that group was this interesting and famous portrait of Abraham Lincoln that was dated 1901. I\'m not sure why the State elected to get rid of this portrait but I\'m assuming because of the slight damage to the picture (see photos), or some summer help saw the damage and put the drawing in the rest of the paintings. Anyway, it still is a very nice and famous portrait and I\'m sure the damage can be repaired and the picture restored. You can see how worn the frame is in one of the photos due to the portrait\'s age. The photos in this sale are of the picture you will receive.
SPECIAL NOTE: Scholars and enthusiasts alike believe this portrait of Abraham Lincoln, taken on November 8, 1863, eleven days before his famed Gettysburg Address, to be the best photograph of him ever taken. Lincoln\'s character was notoriously difficult to capture in pictures, but Alexander Gardner\'s close-up portrait, quite innovative in contrast to the typical full-length portrait style, comes closest to preserving the expressive contours of Lincoln\'s face and his penetrating gaze.This is a 1901 print authored by Moses P. Rice believe to be one of Gardner\'s former assistants.
