Up for sale this week is a vintage Royal Doulton Gibsonplate, part of the A Widow and Her Friends series. Issued in 1901, these plates, 24 in all,showcase Charles Dana Gibson’s famed “Gibson Girl”, now a widow, as sheprogresses through the stages of grief.

This plate, called “She is Disturbed by a Vision Which Appearsto be Herself” features our heroin either praying or contemplating bedside, whilea figment of her former self, as a bride crying, appears to her. Very poignant.

Measuring 10-1/2” across, this plate has no cracks, chips orrepairs. There is, however, some crazingconsistent with age. Fully hallmarkedwith the early Royal Doulton mark.
