1901 Underwood & Underwood "sun Sculpture" Hand Held Stereoviewer / Stereoscope For Sale
Original, 1901, Underwood & Underwood hand-held "Sun Sculpture" Model Stereopticon Viewer / Stereoscope in outstanding, original condition. This very attractive, walnut and impressed and cut aluminum Stereo Viewer measures approx. 12 1/2" overall and features an adjustable card holder and a velvet trimmed, aluminum eye shield with brilliant cut decoration. The optics of the Viewer are exceptional and it is both very attractive and very well preserved. The aluminum eye shield has an impressed Trade Mark featuring a half Sun with text below that reads "Sun Sculpture / U&U / Trade Mark". There is also stamped text on the bottom surface of the vertical arm that reads "Manufactured by Underwood & Underwood / New York" and "Patented June 11, 1901".
This Viewer is very well made and the arm which holds the mount for the Stereo Card being viewed is adjustable so that the image can be brought into razor sharp focus regardless of the viewer's strength of eyesight.
This rare and very well made, Underwood & Underwood Stereoscope is in very good to excellent condition. All parts are present and in excellent working order. The finishes on all parts are original and well preserved and the optics are sharp and eye popping!! The velvet trim on the hood is a bit faded and there are a few tiny blemishes on the brushed aluminum surfaces.
