1904 Unger Bros Sterling Silver Catalog Reprint

This is a high quality reprint of a 1904 Unger Bros. sterling jewelry, flatware and hollowware catalog. This catalog was professionally reproduced on a printing press. Looking through old catalogs is a great way to learn more about this company best known for their line of Art Nouveau sterling silver. We had this bound with a sewn and glued binding. This is a limited-edition reprint of only 1,000 copies. We are down to under250 copies. We donated our original copy to the Newark Museum of Art and therefore we will never reprint this catalog again. I have scanned in 12 different pages so please see the scanned images for more detail.

This 212-page soft-cover catalog illustrates 3,200 different pieces of sterling silver. The foreword is written by Ulysses Grant Dietz, Curator of Decorative Arts at the Newark Museum in Newark, NJ. A biography of the Unger Bros., written by Janet Zapata, Jewelry Historian and former archivist at Tiffany & Co., is also included.

Illustrated are 213 pieces of flatware in Douvaine (50 pieces), Fontenoy (36 pieces), Narcissus (53 pieces), Passaic (61 pieces) and 13 spoon and fork patterns. This is a great section for identifying what was originally made in each of these patterns.

Over 900 pieces of jewelry are illustrated including 16 lorgnettes, 148 belt pins,179 brooches, 180 waist sets, 246 hatpins, 39 tie clasps, 80 fobs, 110 link buttons (cuff links), 68 scarf pins and 68 lockets. The designs include cherubs, animals (dogs, owls, bats), American Indians, women (nude and otherwise), flowers and more. There are over 60 different items with the Indian design on them including an ash tray, fobs, mirror, brushes, vaseline jar, bag tag, belt pins, vase, ink well, eraser and much more.

The hollowware includes dresser sets, fruit bowls, tea sets, desk sets, sewing items and so much more. Some of the more unusual items are check protectors, thermometer cases, chatelaine bags, necessaires, hair receivers, tape measures, letter clips, golf books, Tabasco sauce holders and more.

The original catalog measures 14\" x 20\" which was much too big to reprint so we reduced it by 50% which leaves the reprint a handy 7\" x 10\".

An original 1915 Unger Bros catalog, with only 40 pages, sold in 2009 on for just over $1000. Below is a picture of this sale from .
