MINIATURE SILVER FRONTED BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER

& HYMNS ANCIENT & MODERN.

The book depicts the famous \' Rock of Ages \' scene, with a lady clinging to a stone cross in a raging sea, with an arm reaching up for safety from the stormy waves.

This is a very rare depiction from a biblical scene which comes from an original painting by Johannes Oertel in the 19th. century.

The silver cover has been securely and professionally attached to the book cover after publication.

The book is bound inblack grainedleather. It measures 55mm x 50mm x 30mm thickandweighs 53g.unpacked. Incredibly, there are 1491pages printed on the finest India paper,630 to the prayers section and 861 to hymns.

The gilded page edges lay flat in the binding and arebright.The gilt titles on the spine areclear and legible, with no wear.The leather cover is in excellent unworn and unmarked condition.The black endpapers are in good condition with a few marks.There loss to the bottom corner of the title page and following two pages. Also small closed tears at the top corners of pages 9 & 11, and loss at the top and bottom of the page following page14. There are stains to the top corners of the preliminary pages. Otherwise, the remainder of the pages areimmaculate and undamaged.

The silver cover design is completely unworn.There are no splits or damage whatsoever to the silver, just one ortwo tiny\' dings \'.The binding is tight and secure.

A rare and superb silver fronted Holy Book, with just some page damage.
