Offered for sale is this EXTREMELY rare antique 1907 MULTIPHONE JUKEBOX. Standing at almost 8 feet tall this beautifully restored antique is undoubtably one of the most original Multiphones in existence. Only a handful of these machines still remain today.
Distributed by the Multiphone Operating Company in New York between 1905 and 1908. A date of Sept 27, 1907 was stamped on the back of the mirror making this unit a late 1907 or early 1908 model. It was the first selectable coin operated jukebox with 24 individual Edison cylinders. It took a nickel to play your selected song with a running time of about 4 minutes on the blue amberol records.The mechanism is ALL mechanical with no electrical parts using an Edison styled 3 spring motor for power. The cabinet is made of mahogany and beautifully finished. The mechanical components are quite intricate for its time with a main feed screw controlling the entire operation through various pulleys and chains, counterbalanced arms, sliding actuators and many more functions happening simultaneously. This machine has been in my family for over forty years being acquired through a museum in Northern California that was closing it's doors in the mid 1970's. The original condition of this machine was VERY GOOD prior to restoration.
