A Framed hand signed letter by Winston Churchill to a Mr Fraser in Gisera, 1908.

The card, also framed, reads:

“Winston Churchill (4 Jan 1908) A.L.S. 1p. 7” x 4 ½” with 3 integral blank pages.

‘Jan 4th Dear Mr Fraser. I am much obliged to you for your kind invitation, of which I will not hesitate to avail myself if I have the opportunity. My stay here will be so short and crowded that I cannot just now make an appointment. Yours sincerely, Winston S Churchill.’ Plus autograph addressed envelope to: ‘George Fraser Esq., Dehabia, Strange Harbour, Gesira’.

On official notepaper with royal arms on flap of envelope. No stamps and probably delivered by Government messenger. No year given in date but known to have been written on 4 Jan, 1908, when Winston was in Cairo on his way back from his visit to East Africa (see ‘My African Journey’ 1908). He Left Alexandria on 9th Jan. 1908 by the ss ‘Heliopolis’.”

Framed with a photograph or printed page with an image of Winston from that time and the letter. Clearly visible at the top of the letter page are the Royal Arms said to be visible on the flap of the envelope.

Dimensions: 17 x 16 ½ inches to the gilt frame. 14 ½ x 13 ¾ to the inside of the frame.

Materials: gilt frame, relatively recent (last 50 years) with red felt lining and gilt edges to the internal inner frames housing each element. Slight chips to the gilt framing - see photos.
