The book is bound in fineblackleather, with gilttitles on the spine. All page edges are gilt. It measures2.1/8" x 1.3/4" x 1.1/4" thick(55mm x 45mm x 30mm), and weighs 50g. unpacked. The Common Prayer section has 688 pages and the Hymns has 861, making an amazing total of 1549 pages. There areblack endpapers, which are veryclean andunmarked, other than small holeon the front free endpaper which has been made by the back of the pin securing the silver cover. This has made a small stain on the verso of the page (see photos).Thereis a smalldedication opposite this.
This book is in a superb, virtually mint condition, and is as fine an example as you are likely to find.
The silver front and design areinan excellent condition, with no splits ordamage, other than some tiny hairlinescratches around the pin onthe front. The cherubs/angels design is unworn. The binding is tight, there are no loose or detached pages and the text block is firm and secure. A few page gatherings at the front are slightly proud of the binding. The leather coveriscompletely unworn and unmarked, and it appears that the bookhas been stored from new and has had no usage at all.The pages areimmaculate and unmarked with no foxing, markings, tears or creases. The gilt page edgeslay flat in the binding and are very bright and unworn.
This is a beautiful example of a silver fronted Prayer Book.
