I Believe I Have a New Favorite

I'll likely spend the rest of my life looking for another light like this and probably come up short.

This is one of the few lights I've not been able to find in my reference catalogs. The socket is a 1912 Benjamin, patented in 1912. The lights construction, the age of the socket and quality of the porcelain tells me it is 80 to 100 years old. The shade appears to have been stamped or pressed out of a fairly heavy gauge steel, folded on three corners and welded on the fourth...then covered in cobalt blue porcelain. The welded corner is featured in one of the many pictures.

The cobalt blue color of this light makes an extremely rare light even more scarce. As most of us know, blue is the rarest of all industrial light colors. Blue was more expensive to produce so most people simply didn't buy it. This makes the available numbers of cobalt blue lights far fewer.

The condition is well above average for a light that has served for 100 years or so. The pictures show the condition well, a couple of chips, a bit of rust, all to be expected in a light that is so old.

The socket is mounted to a very solid brass fitter. This allowed me to attach a ground wire, safety, #1 rule. All of the electrical is of very high quality and should serve the new guardian well.

The shade dimensions are 16 1/2" x 8 1/2". It is 10 1/2" from the bottom of the shade to the point the pipe enters the fitter. From the bottom to the ceiling is 19". The down-rod is constructed off heavy brass.

The light was carefully disassembled, (virgin territory), cleaned, re-wired and carefully re-assembled....and it was my extreme pleasure.
