VERY WELL COULD BE A ONE OF ONE !!!
To give some background on this find, it was passed down by my 100yr old (WWII vet) Uncle, who passed a year ago. His father gave it to him. They were both in the military and built their own home, on Cape Cod.
This medallion is an exquisite piece of historical significance, for the Cape region as well as the State of Massachusetts and engineering history. August Belmont financed the construction and initial creation of the Canal, on June 221909. This piece is a commemorative display of the grand opening on, July 29th 1914.
The REVERSE of the piece states,
\"FIRST TRAFFIC ACROSS ISTHMUS SEPTEMBER 2, 1627\"
\"OFFICIAL OPENING OF CANAL JULY 29TH, 1914\"
