Fromthe Publisher’s Note: “These forty stories, chosen and illustrated for thisedition by Arthur Rackham, together with the selection which we published someyears ago with illustrations by the same artist, make a total of one hundredstories which include, it is thought, all of the best of the Fairy Tales of theBrothers Grimm…” 251 pages. The bookmeasures 7 ½” by 10” tall.
The12 tipped-in color illustrations are mounted on grayish-brown papers and areall present. In addition the book has40-some in-text illustrations all by Rackham.
Condition: Maroon cloth-boards showsome wear and bumping at the corners and spine ends, with some smallspotting. Spine is faded and somewhat wrinkled. Illustrated endpapers in very good conditionwith some light toning and an inscription in fountain-pen. Binding tight,hinges intact. Interior pages of textvery clean with a rare small ¾”tear at the bottom margin from overly eagerfingers turning the page. Condition of tipped-in plates is overall good to verygood, but for accuracy’s sake (also please see the images): 10 of the 12 plateshave one to three creases in the lower left hand corner, most of them are ~1”in length across the corner, a few are ~ 2” in length across the corner. A fewalso have very tiny ¼” tears at the left margin in the same area as the crease.Again, please review the pictures for this. There is very occasional foxing inthe text, none on the illustrations.
