1918 WWI \"Trio\" Canadian Service Medals

Description:This vintage Canadian full-size set of World War One service medals features the Victory Medal, the British War Medal and the 1914-15 Star. This set was awarded posthumously to Private Harvey Hare of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. These medals are impressed with Pte. Hare\'s service number (103000), rank (DVR), name (H. Hare) and unit (R.E.).Driver (Dvr) was a military rank used in the British Army and the armies of other Commonwealth countries. It was equivalent to the rank of Private.The rank was initially used in the Royal Artillery for the men who drove the teams of horses which pulled the guns. It was phased out after the First World War (when all Royal Artillerymen of the lowest rank were redesignated as Gunners). It was also used in the Royal Australian Artillery and Royal Canadian Artillery.HARE, Harvey Pte 988 2nd Bn died of Diphtheria 25 May, 1916 at the age of 17 and is buried in Ayr Cemetery - Ayrshire, United Kingdom. 1914-15 Star: bronze, with a height of 50mm, and a maximum width of 45mmCondition: Good condition withwear commensurate with age. No attempt to polish or remove verdigris from the medals has been made. Silk ribbons are original to the medals and need to be re-sewn to the mountingpin. Refer to photos for details.
