1920 EBONY & SILVER HAIRBRUSH DRESSING TABLE VANITY ANTIQUE VINTAGE STERLING SET:

DESCRIPTION:

An ebony backed hairbrush with its original real bristles and sterling silver embellishment. The silver has a vacant cartouche surrounded with decorative engravings and is hallmarked London 1920 makers mark H. F. Daltrey and Conpany. The hairbrush measures 10 inches long, 2.25 inches wide and is stamped \'REAL EBONY\' to the handle.

This extremely slow growing hardwood was imported from British India and was a popular vanity set material with both men and women from around the turn of the century to the mid 1920s, when the timber became too rare and expensive to be economically viable. These ebony relics of the period have been highly prized ever since.

CONDITION:

The ebony is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks, it has a highly polished patina. The bristles are clean and firm with only a single tuft of loss. The silver has a ding to the cartouche but is otherwise in excellent condition with no significant scratches or rubbing and no missing fixing pins.
