1920 Seder / Judaica Service Of Passover Plate, Ridgway, London:
We are offering for offer a ceramic plate depicting the religion and spiritual aspects of the Jewish Passover service. This plate has the main heading “The Service of the Passover” in the largest cartouche (top center) together with additional decorative cartouches in the center and around the border showing the individual ingredients included in or served at the Passover Seder. This Passover Service or Seder is one of the most important aspects of Judaism. It leasts for 8 days and celebrates the Biblical historic exodus of the Jews from Egypt. This plate is decorated with a black transfer print. Typically, it is printed in blue transfer. The back of the plate shows three spur marks near the rim where the plate rested in the firing kiln. There is a circular makers mark in upper case black letters reading “Manufactured by Ridgway, England, Reg. No. 699855”. Above this marking is “Bardiger, London” and below the circular marking is “Tepper, London”. These are probably the distributors or businesses that required large numbers of Passover China for sale. For example, a Solomon Bardiger had a London china shop in the 1920’s that specialized in Passover china and crockery. There are also an impressed number 11 over the impressed number 23. This may have been a mold or pattern number. This Seder plate measures 9 ⅞ inches and is in excellent condition. There are no chips, no cracks and no restoration. We are selling without reserve.
