Aloha!

For sale is a classic C.F. Martin & Co. Style 0 ukulele from the late 1920s or early ’30’s. Soprano-sized, the body is solid mahogany with a 5-ply circle of inlay around the sound hole, banded in black and white. The fingerboard is rosewood with small dot inlays and 12 bar frets. Bridge and saddle are both ebony. The tuners are original Grover Simplex Pegs with black buttons, and work well. The overall length is 20-3/4”, the body length 9-5/16\", scale length 13-3/4\", and width at the lower bout is 6-1/4”. The action is low -- 3/32\" inch at the 12th fret, G string -- and the strings are new Martin M600 Clear Fluorocarbons. Plays wonderfully all the way up the neck.

As for the sound, not only is it a Martin, it\'s a very good Martin -- with superb midrange, bright highs and exceptional volume and clarity. You\'ll love it.

A note on the age: Grover Simplex Tuners were used on Style 0 ukuleles from 1926-1942. See Walsh & King, The Martin Ukulele (Hal Leonard, 2013) at p. 128. Starting in the early 1930s, these instruments no longer had the company name stamped on the back of the headstock, like this one; instead, they had decals on the front. Id., p. 120. I therefore estimate that this one was made sometime between 1926 and 1934.

CONDITION: Good, after repair. There were four fine cracks in the back that have been cleated and glued (see photo 4). Both sides have shrinkage cracks in the grain that never quite pulled apart; both have been cleated to make sure this doesn’t occur (see photos 5, 6). Both back braces were reglued. The finish is original with a light overspray of nitrocellulose guitar lacquer to seal crack repairs and consolidate some spots were the old nitro was breaking up due to use and dryness, particularly on the top. There\'s a small ding at the butt that was filled with epoxy (see photo 10.) Numerous other dings still show, as seen in the photos: character!

NEWBIES: If you have a zero response score, no problem -- offer away -- but please contact me by e-mail first, or I will have to cancel your offer.

SHIPPING: I ship to the U.S. mainland, Hawaii, Alaska and U.S. Protectorates only. No P.O. boxes or APO/FPO, please, and no international shipments due to the rosewood fingerboard, which is restricted under the CITES treaty. Shipping is usually via UPS Ground ($18.00), with an extra $25.00 for shipment to Hawaii, Alaska or U.S. Protectorates.

Mahalo for looking.
