AN EXCEPTIONALLY NICE US CAVALRY McCLELLAN SADDLE MODEL 1928 WITH SUPERB MARKINGS REFLECTING ITS USE IN THE WYOMING NATIONAL GUARD CAVALRY 1ST REGIMENT.

THIS UNIT WASORGANIZED IN 1888 AND EVENTUALLY WAS RENAMED THE 115TH CAVALRY (HORSE MECHANIZED). IT IS ALSO KNOWN AS THEPOWDER RIVER REGIMENT.

THE REGIMENT WAS BROKEN UP, CONVERTED, REORGANIZED AND REDESIGNATED OVER THE YEARS BUT SERVED IN VARIOUS FORMS AND UNITSDURING THE SPANISH AMERICAN WAR, WORLD WAR I AND WORLD WAR II. THE MARKING ALSO INCLUDE AN \"E\" FOR TROOP \"E\". THIS TROOP WAS AT VARIOUS TIME IN SHERIDAN AND THEN IN TORRINGTON, WYOMING.

THE SADDLE OFFERED HERE ISTRULY A REMARKABLE SADDLEIN SUPERBCONDITIONREMAINING ORIGINAL AND UNMOLESTED WITH NO REPAIR.

THE TREE IS A BIT LIGHTER THAN THE FENDERS WHICH WERE ADDED IN 1928. THE RIGGING IS THE BRITISH STYLE ADOPTED IN 1928 BY THE US CAVALRY WITH 3 BILLETS ON EACH SIDE. THE STIRRUP STRAPS ARE THE CORRECT STRAPS WITH THE ROLLER BUCKLE. THE STIRRUPS HAVE BEEN MODIFIED TO CONFORM TO THE 1928 MODEL WHERE THE HOOD OF THE STANDARD 1904 MODEL WERE REMOVED AND THE WOODEN STIRRUPS WAS CUT DOWN.

ALL THE BRASS HARDWARE IS PRESENT.IT IS A SIZE 12 , AS SHOWN ON THE POMMEL SHIELD. IT WAS THELARGESTSIZE MADE FOR THEUS CAVALRY.

THIS SADDLESHOWSFIELD USE AND WAS ISSUED. ITHAS BEEN WELL KEPT AND PRESERVED FORAT LEAST80YEARS AND PROBABLY MORE SINCE THE TREE IS OF WORLD WAR I VINTAGE.

HERE IS A SUMMARY OF ITS CONDITION:

THE TREE AND ITS LEATHER IS SOUND. IT IS A MEDIUM TO DARKCHOCOLATE BROWN COLOR WITHSOME MARKS AND DARKER AREASTAIN THAT ONE SHOULD EXPECT FROM A SADDLE THIS OLD.

THERE IS NO MAJOR DAMAGE OR GOUGES IN THE LEATHER JUST MINOR SCRATCHES. THERE IS NO OPEN SEAM AND THE STITCHING IS STRONG. THE STIRRUP STRAPS ARE FULL LENGTH AND PROPERLY MOUNTED. THE 3 COAT STRAPS REMAINING APPEAR ORIGINAL AND ARE NICELY PIGTAILED PER REGULATION. MUCH OF THE ORIGINAL SEWN ON FELT IS PRESENT UNDER THE TREE WHICH IS RARELY FOUND INTACT.

DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK QUESTION. THE SADDLE WILL NEED A COUPLE OF APPLICATION OF YOUR FAVORITE LEATHER PRESERVATIVE AS THE LEATHER IS DRY.
