$2250.00

This listing is for a 1929 Westchester Country Club - 11\" CARTIER Sterling Silver Golf Trophy weighing 22.3 oz. This ornate and unique shaped plate is the most beautiful sterling silver golf plate that I have seen. The engraving is stunning and reads: WESTCHESTER COUNTRY CLUB
1929 R. A. YOUNG TROPHY WON BY
LEOPOLD BECKERThe Westchester Country Club was built as an 8-story luxury hotel resort by John McIntee Bowman, the founder of the Bowman-Biltmore Hotels Corp. He hired Walter Travis to design 36 holes consisting of the championship west course and the south course.Walter Travis won (3) U.S. Amateur Championships and (1) British Amateur Championship leading to the banning of the Schnectady Putter. He also finish 2nd in the 1902 U.S. Open. Walter Travis designed Garden City Golf Club, Ekwanok C.C. in Vermont, Hollywood Golf Club, Jekyll Island Golf Club and remodeled Columbia Country Club and the Country Club of Buffalo, thereby making him the 1st U.S. Open Doctor. In 1999, GOLF WORLD magazine ranked Walter Travis second in its TOP TEN LIST OF UNDERRATED GOLF COURSE ARCHITECTS.The Westchester Country Club hosted the Thunderbird Classic from 1963-65 and the The Westchester Classic (1967-2007) with a change in names and sponsors resulting in the tournament being called THE BARCLAYS, although players still referred to it as The Westchester. Because the tournament was held the week before the U.S. Open, there was always a good field with noted multiple winners: Jack Nicklaus, Seve Bellesteros and Vijay Singh. It is remembered for Bob Gilder\'s famous Double Eagle on the 18th hole on Sunday in winning the golf tourn-ament.This is one of the prettiest and most outstanding golf collectibles that will display extremely well in your office, study, or golf club. It is solid sterling silver (20 troy oz.) made by the noted and world famous CARTIER jewelers.

The plate will be shipped by Priority Mail and Insured.
