Offered is an original Mutoscope reel featuring Felix the Cat. This is reel # 7713, titled \"Howling Hot-Dogs!\". Felix was a popular cartoon from the 1930\'s, running wellinto the 1970\'s. He is acult classic today andadored by many. His \"bag of tricks\" got him out of many a jam. This reel has two separate adventures, with each being equally clever and humorous. Suitable for all ages. This reel will work in all Mutoscope machines...clamshell, Indian, small and large sheet metal varieties. It will NOT work in the multi-scope machine, as those reels have inverted images.
Mutoscopes were a staple in the penny arcade, boardwalk, fairground, amusement parks and other venues since the 1890\'s. They were the pre-cursor to the big screensilent movies and were often the only chance the public had to see something of significance, as television was not an option. The reels featured popular actors of the day, prominent sporting events, cartoons, and of course, the erotic treats, which made the machines so popular.
The reel is in very good condition. There are a several isolated cards that have some paper loss, due to sticking together. They do not,however, impedethe enjoyment of the movie, as the cards travel too quickly to notice. The matching marquee card is a high quality reproduction finished by a very talented sign painter. The colors and period graphics will compliment any machine. The marquee cards were intended to be bright with attention grabbing slogans, as to attract a patron and elicit a play. A reproduction reel can cost significantly in excess of this offering without a high quality marquee card included. This is an original and agreat value.
