You are viewing a Vintage, unique, antique New York City Brooklyn trolley roll sign section from a Brooklyn Trolley.
We believe this to be from an 8000-series streetcar, circa early 1930s.
This sign is in excellent condition (8/10), with a minimal amount of grime.
Please carefully review the photos before offerding.
Minor edge wear was caused by the metal rollers towards the bottom of the sign on both vertical edges.
The sign has a black background with cream/white lettering. When a trolley operated on a certain route, the sign would change color over time as a result of UV exposure.
At one time, all surface transit in Brooklyn was operated by rail - either trolleys or rapid transit - by the Brooklyn Rapid Transit company. In 1923, the Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit company emerged from the rubble of the BRT\'s bankruptcy to operate the subways and trolleys in Brooklyn.
In 1940, the City of New York took control of all transit operations in the city.
On June 1, 1940, there were over 1,200 trolleys in regular passenger service.
After the Board of Transportation took over, removal of rail service in favor of buses began to accelerate.
The last Brooklyn trolley operated in 1956.
This section measures 23 inches wide by 48 inches long.
