The collection was brought to us via the Celebrity Sleuth, the publisher of the infamous magazine of the same name, which made the “before they were famous” nude pictorials of tv & film stars a hotly collectible genre. As part of his work, the Sleuth frequented vintage bookstores to pore over old magazines in hopes of recognizing celebrities whose images would later appear in the pages of his own magazine. At Alexandria, Virginia’s From Out of the Past bookstore, he met Dick Higgins, who worked at the store for over 35 years, never receiving a salary…instead simply being paid in his choice of magazines. The two formed a friendship and bond ... and Higgins wanted Sleuth to share his collection after his death in 2015, which we are over the moon to have the opportunity to offer at this time! ITEM:This sale is for a vintage nude \"Figure Study\" art magazine from the 1930s, titled \"Girl Parade\" number four and featuring pages of black and white photographs and art models in a variety of art deco poses and Hollywood Regency settings. One of many of the short lived publications flying in the face of censorship, and the banning of these essentially girl watcher magazines that were sold under bookstore counters discreetly during the era.This title in particular acted as a secondary publisher of photographs by a variety of glamour photographers from the US and Europe, including an image which appears to be of Merle Oberon emerging from a plant taken by a fine art photographer in Vienna before her move to the US to pursue Hollywood. Other stars noted by the eye of the Sleuth include Joan Bennett and Lupé Velez.
