FDR was greatly loved as he led thecountry through the very difficult times of the Great Depression and World WarII. Franklin Delano Roosevelt is the only US President to have been elected toa 3rd and 4th term of Office.

President Roosevelt died on March 1, 1945,shortly after addressing a joint session of Congress upon his return from theYalta Conference with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin.

Upon hearing the news of FDR=sdeath Winston Churchill said he felt as though he had been \"struck aphysical blow,\" and broke down when he relayed the news in a speech to theHouse of Commons. The news of FDR\'sdeath so moved Stalin that he allowed the story and the President\'s picture tobe printed on the front pages of the Russian newspapers ‑ space previouslyreserved only for national stories.

A funeral train slowly brought Roosevelt\'sbody from Warm Springs, Georgia to Washington, DC and then to resting place athis home in Hyde Park, New York.

There was an intense outpouring of grieffor FDR=spassing, a man who piloted the country successfully through two major events ‑the Great Depression and World War II.In his message to Congress in June 1934, FDR stated that he placed\"the security of the men, women and children of the Nation first.\"The \"security of the home, the security of livelihood, and the security ofsocial insurance,\" he stated, \"constitute a right that belongs toevery individual.\" The achievement of these goals, in part throughcreation of the Social Security system, was among his greatest accomplishments.
