1930s Gibson L-00 Guitar, Vintage Antique Rare:
$810.00

For sale is a classic Gibson L-00 guitar from the early 1930s — could also be an L-0, since the two models are notoriously hard to tell apart.

The top is spruce with mahogany back and sides, a bound top, unbound back, an inlaid sound hole ring (white-black-white), and a rectangular rosewood bridge. The fingerboard is unbound rosewood with 12 frets clear of the body, and pearl dot position markers to the 15th fret. The width at lower bout is 14-1/2”; overall length, 38-3/8”; body depth at the butt, 4-5/16”; scale length, 24-3/4”; and the neck width is 1-3/4” at the nut. The action at the 12th fret is 5/32” on the bass side, 4/32” on the treble. The neck is straight, plays well, sounds gorgeous. Included is an old hardshell case that’s in funky-but-solid condition; I doubt it’s original.

CONDITION: This instrument has been worked on a lot, by me and others. There are plenty of repaired cracks, as shown in the photos. When I got it the top had bellied north of the bridge and several old repairs to the top braces had let go -- they needed regluing. I removed the bridge, cleaned up the old glue as well as I could, used Stew Mac\'s \"Thompson Belly Reducer\" to get things back within range, then reglued the braces and reset the bridge. The result -- much less belly, nice action, quite playable. I’m satisfied. I\'m using Martin Silk-and-Steel strings, though. Wouldn\'t want to pull too hard on it at this point.

The back had old repairs involving cleats the size of shingles. I managed to lift those out, redo the ones that needed it, and cleaned up a lot more old glue. The back braces also had some crazy repairs which needed reinforcement. Again, take a look at the photos.

As for the finish, someone repainted the instrument and did a pretty good job. As you can see, it\'s your basic black, with no pick guard -- there’s no sign it ever had one.

The tuners are original and their condition isn’t bad -- a couple have shafts that aren’t quite quite straight, but they work fine.

NEWBIES: If you have a zero response score, no problem -- offer away -- but please contact me by e-mail first, or I will have to cancel your offer.

SHIPPING: I ship to the U.S. mainland, Hawaii, Alaska and U.S. Protectorates only. No P.O. boxes or APO/FPO, please, and no international shipments due to the rosewood fingerboard. Shipping is usually via UPS Ground ($65.00), with an extra $25.00 for shipment to Hawaii, Alaska or U.S. Protectorates.

Thanks for looking.
