Sight size approx. 10-1/4” x 8”; matted and housed under glass in the original whitewashed wood frame measuring 16-1/4” x 14-1/4” overall

Summary of visual elements: A skillful stylized, modernist landscape, strikingly executed in a style recalling the white line woodcut technique, including houses, church with cupola, trees, and a mountain looming in the background

Mild wear to frame; otherwise fine, attractive condition (not examined outside frame)

About the artist: Voute, born in Montclair, New Jersey studied at the Art Students League, Grand Central School of Art, and the G. P. Ennis School of Art. In the 1930s and 1940s she exhibited her works at the New Jersey State Museum, American Watercolor Society, Washington Watercolor Club, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Montclair Art Museum, New Jersey Watercolor Society; American Artists Professional League, and the Montclair Art Association. She later became best known as an illustrator of such children’s books as Caroline and Her Kettle Named Maud, Runaway Cousins, The Magic Ball from Mars, The House of the Swan, The Hidden Garden, and others.
