Description: ……Hand painted on artist’s board this original Oil Painting measures 20“ by 16“. Depicting a crowd of people on a New York City Subway Train this painting is from the early 20th century Ashcan School of New York. It is signed and dated on the back “Nathan King, July 1932, From Sketches, 3rd Ave Local.” After some searching I was surprised that I could not find any information about Nathan King. I did find that the 3rd Ave Line was an Elevated Railway in Manhattan and that the Bronx that was the last running elevated railway in New York City, eventually becoming part of the New York Subway System.  … The condition of this WPA-era Oil Painting is original and untouched with no repairs. It could use a light cleaning, to help bring out the artist’s original colors, and there is some frame rubs and paint chipping to the very edges of the artist’s board.  There are no other problems, and to make sure some er wins this 1932 New York Subway Oil Painting, it has been listed without any reserve!
